Why You Feel Sore After a Massage

It might seem strange, but sometimes you can feel a little sore after a massage.

This is normal—especially if your muscles were very tight or if it’s been a while since your last session.

Why It Happens

During a massage, tight muscles are worked and circulation increases. This helps release built-up tension.

When muscles finally let go, they can feel tender—similar to how you might feel after a workout.

Your body is adjusting, resetting, and healing.

How Long Does It Last?

Soreness is usually mild and lasts 24–48 hours.

You may also feel:

  • Slight fatigue

  • Increased thirst

  • Deep relaxation

All of this is part of your body responding to the work.

How to Feel Better Faster

After your massage:

  • Drink water

  • Move gently

  • Stretch lightly

  • Rest if you feel tired

This helps your body recover and absorb the benefits.

A Gentle Reminder

Soreness doesn’t mean something went wrong. It often means your body is releasing tension and adjusting to feeling different.

If you ever feel unsure, always communicate with your therapist. Your comfort matters.
